Studies on intravenous glucose tolerance curve. 4. Experiments on normal and adrenalectomized rats.

چکیده
There are many works on change in the blood sugar values following the intravenous administration of glucose (Thaunhauser and Pfitzer,1913;Tunbridge and Allibone,1940;Samuels et al.,1937 a,b;Greville,1943;Soskin,1944;Nonobe,1952;Amatuzio,1953;Hirata,1954;Scow and Cornfield,1954 a,b).It is generally known that the pituitary, adrenocortical and thyroid hormones concerned with carbohydrate metabolism. At present, however, the effect of these hormones upon the glucose tolerance is not completely elucidated.Recently, Takeuchi et al.(1957)and Fukushima(1957 a,b) made experiments on this problem with dogs and rabbits, respectively, and reported that the so-called atypical

Comparison of glucocorticoid activity of some synthetic adrenocorticoids by a new method based upon intravenous glucose tolerance curve in rat.
Previously the author carrid out the intravenous glucose tolerance test with rats, and reported that the glucose tolerance curve for the adrenalectomized animal returned to the pre-operative level on the administration of hydrocortisone acetate (Tobe, 1957). Recently new compounds representing modifications of cortisone and hydrocortisone have appeared. Fried and Sabo(1953, 1954)showed that hal...
متن کاملEffect of thyroidectomy and food intake on oral and intravenous glucose tolerances in rats.
I N A PREVIOUS STUDY of the effect of thyroidectomy on oral glucose tolerance, interpretation of the findings was complicated by the marked difference in size between thyroidectomized and normal control rats (I). It was demonstrated that age had a pronounced effect on the rate of intestinal absorption of glucose, but it was not ascertained if this was a direct effect of age or secondary to its ...
متن کاملGlucose tolerance and insulin release in malnourished rats.
1. Young Wistar rats were used as an experimental model to determine the effects of protein-energy malnutrition on glucose tolerance and insulin release. 2. Malnourished rats presented some of the features commonly found in human protein-energy malnutrition, such as failure to gain weight, hypoalbuminaemia, fatty infiltration of the liver and intolerance of oral and intravenous glucose loads. 3...
متن کامل4-Hydroxyisoleucine: experimental evidence of its insulinotropic and antidiabetic properties.
We have recently shown in vitro that 4-hydroxyisoleucine (4-OH-Ile), an amino acid extracted from fenugreek seeds, potentiates insulin secretion in a glucose-dependent manner. The present study was designed to investigate whether 4-OH-Ile could exert in vivo insulinotropic and antidiabetic properties. For this purpose, intravenous or oral glucose tolerance tests (IVGTTs and OGTTs, respectively)...
متن کاملEffect of nicotinamide on blood sugar and blood acetone bodies of diabetic and normal subjects.
Gobell (1) showed that 100 mg. of nicotinamide injected intravenously into children produced regularly a fall in the blood sugar level, averaging 21.3 mg. per cent. The hypoglycemic action of nicotinic acid was also observed in normal human adults by Marche and Delbarre (2), PoumeauDelille and Fabiani (3), and Neuwahl (4). In experiments with animals Ledrut (5) observed a marked decrease in the...
